About the Fresh-Brewed Writer

Welcome to my blog! My name is Pattie, and I've been in this little corner of the web for almost 15 years, writing about books and writing. I am a wife and mom, high school English teacher, writer, editor, proofreader, daughter, friend, and not-so-secret book hoarder.

My blog's name comes from Nicole Johnson's book Fresh-Brewed Life: A Stirring Invitation to Lift Up Your Soul. I first saw Nicole perform at Wives of Faith in 1999, and her book was instrumental in a spiritual awakening in my heart.

Nearly three years ago, our family moved from south central Alaska (here I am standing on the Knik Arm of the Cook Inlet at Earthquake Park in Anchorage) to southern Georgia, where it's hot and humid. I really miss my moose sightings... That's not to say that I don't enjoy Georgia. I mean, check out this huge backyard, with a firepit my husband made himself! Pretty awesome.

I'm finishing up my second year back teaching in the high school classroom after a dozen year hiatus, during which I worked for a Curves fitness club, worked as a substitute teacher, and taught college composition for a university extension campus. High school--particularly ninth grade--is really challenging and difficult most days. Nevertheless, I persevere and hope and pray that I can touch lives in room 733.
