October 1st: How Can I Possibly Forgive?

Today is the launch day for Sara Horn's new book How Can I Possibly Forgive? Rescuing Your Heart from Resentment and Regret

I may have just read this book in the past few weeks, but I can tell it is one that I will return to again and again throughout my life. It is a wonderful book.

How Can I Possibly Forgive?
How can we forgive others? Ourselves? How can we heal from resentment, and how can we fight against letting that bitter root grow in our hearts? This book answers all of these questions and more.

This book is less of a one-year experiment (as Sara did with her "My So-Called Life" books about following the Proverbs 31 woman and submitting to her husband in her marriage) and more of a study of forgiveness. Sara uses examples from the Bible and her own life experience--both good and bad--to show how God worked through her life to forgive and to write a book about forgiving others and forgiving ourselves.

I, too, have dealt with the difficulty of forgiving others and forgiving myself. Like every other human being on the planet, I have been wronged, I have been hurt, and I have been the one who wronged and hurt others. So this book resonated in my heart, showing me most of all how far I've come in my journey of forgiveness for some deep hurts, as well as showing me how to move forward in more recent heart-bruising instances.

This book was also timely for me, as I have read two other deep, thought-provoking books this summer. The Lord has been working on me and my heart, doing some work through the writing of several Godly women. My own writing has been mostly silenced (which is interesting given my theme word for 2014, Creative), other than book reviews and a few short articles for Wives of Faith. And that's okay, because I know from my life thus far that nothing I've ever gone through is wasted, and I cannot see the future clearly enough to know that this heart-work won't be used next week, next month, or ten years from now. I just need to be obedient.

I love this topic, Pattie, and so grateful you shared on Sara's book. It's another one I will need to add to my list of must read. I have a feeling you will have me adding many more to my list. :)
Blessings.

It is a good thing I just started my Bullet Journal because I am going to need a page of "I want to read these books!" before this series is anywhere close to done.

This sounds excellent, Pattie. Early this year I participated in a Bible study about forgiveness and it was, no exaggeration, lifechanging for me. Looking forward to your next post!

I keep looking at this book. Eventually I will read it.
Right now I am hip deep in monastics.
