What I Learned in August

What did I learn in August?

Well, friends, I learned a lot about myself and not all of it was pretty. But I'll be honest and say that some of it is good for me to know, so that I can continue growing and learning and changing as an adult.

Adulting is hard.

In fact, let's make that the first in the list....

1. Adulting is hard. Being a grown-up is difficult and requires much of us. We don't like to admit it, but there it is, a truth universally acknowledged. We have to do things because we're adults. Period.

2. Taking one's firstborn to college over 1000 miles away is hard. I felt all the feels, shed many tears, and miss her. It really does feel like we're missing a piece of our family, and I have a hole in my heart. I'm not even exaggerating!

3. I don't like working from home. There. I said it. I don't like it. Feeling accountable only to my husband, who acts like my "boss," is terrible. I love him, don't get me wrong; we've been married for 24 years and we have known each other for 28 years now. But selling off his and his family's stuff is just plain hard and not fun at all. I feel like I'm a better person when I work outside the home and get to interact with people. I think it feeds my extroverted side (I consider myself an ambivert, for the record, and I do enjoy part of my day of quiet, which feeds my introverted side). Hopefully I'll find some sort of balance and will learn to relate better with him as he tries to encourage me, even though it feels to me like he's just being bossy.

4. I have an idea for a book. Finally. At long last. And it scares me to death to start writing a book. But I will. I have, actually.

5. I will defend you, encourage you, and praise you to my dying day, but if someone praises me, I think she is lying. Why is it so hard for me to believe good things about myself? I don't know. It's an unpleasant truth.

6. The First 5 App from Proverbs 31 Ministries is awesome. Check it out. You'll be glad you did.

There you go, friends....some things I learned in August. Go visit Emily P. Freeman's blog to learn what other women are learning!

Love that you talked about the good and not so good.

Every month has those moments, right? And this one was no exception!

Saying 'hi' from your next-door-neighbor at Emily's! So nice to meet you ...

I love this! And working from home is really hard. I have been doing it four years now and I still have a hard time staying focused sometimes. Praying for you all as you make all the changes and adjustments. Love you, friend.

College is a difficult transition on both sides. But your child will grow a lot. :)
