One Word 2015: WRITE

I haven't been doing what the mug says, have I? Evidence below, as my last post was almost two months ago.

In fact, I hit a wall with my 2014 One Word, which was Creative.

I read books about creativity and art, which side of the brain does what, and many other things. But when it actually came to creating, well, that was where I stuck with the familiar: painting pottery like this mug, or two sketches all year in my journal, or even knitting the same kind of scarf (two strands of Lion Brand Hometown yarn, size 50 needles, 6 stitches across in garter).

Not much adventure there. I allowed the word to dictate how I had to be, so I learned avoidance.

Enter the end of 2014, and the expectation of 2015 just around the corner. All I saw in my mind and on my desk was this mug: Write.

I have not used my gift well.

I teach writing, I can write, and I edit others' writing. But I get all wrapped up in my head and just don't write anymore.

So with the one word staring me in the face (literally in my line of vision right now on the windowsill above my desk where I sit typing this blog post), I must do what I must do.

Write.

Proverbs 3:3 says, Let love and faithfulness never leave you;
    bind them around your neck,
    write them on the tablet of your heart.

Lord, let me be faithful to the gift You have given me.

I found your blog post on Faith Barista link up - I still need to put the button on my blog. So your post stuck out the most for me in the link up - Your word - Write -
I am glad I read your post. I am a new writer and I started my blog about five months ago. I really enjoy writing. I just want to encourage you to write. You have words to share-that the rest of the world needs to hear. Don't hide your gift.

Hi Patti, I totally connect with what you're saying and I'm so proud of you for writing. As is. whole-hearted writing. I stopped writing for a whole year, even though I wrote for decades as a Silicon Valley high teh professional and wrote lots of Bible Study material. but, when it comes to just simply being me, I hit a fog thicker than words can penetrate. that's how I discovered whole-hearted writing. and that is what you've done here with us. writing as is. just pour out onto the page where you are. and that is how I wrote my book Finding spiring Whitespace. Thanks for linking up in #BelovedBrews. welcome! you're among kindreds.

I found your blog post while clicking blogs on www.faithbarista.com. I can relate to this and it is good to know I am not alone in my journey of allowing myself to flow from the heart, and not try and be a perfectionist, thus threatening myself with, "Just don't write if you don't have it together." I am discovering that this mindset is a lie from Hell, because there is actually healing in admitting, repenting, writing, being real with God. I pray you are bless this year and can't wait to read more inspiring words from other ladies who love the Lord! - Meghan W.
